Replacement Fences for Carrollton’s 1970s to 1990s Homes

Carrollton grew from 13,855 residents in 1970 to 40,595 in 1980, and the 2020 census counted 133,434. Most of its houses went up in the 1970s, 80s and 90s, so most of our Carrollton work replaces a fence that has reached the end of its life. Our Plano office is about 15 to 20 minutes away. Each job starts with a written estimate, a set timeline and a project manager who picks up the phone.

Carrollton also zones land for commercial, industrial and freeway use, and chain link is allowed in all three. We build commercial chain link for those sites in galvanized or black, with slide gates and access control where the property needs them. A business owner gets the same written plan and the same project manager follow-up as a homeowner.

Wood Fencing

Cedar privacy fences up to Carrollton’s 8 ft limit, set on steel posts in concrete footings and stained so the boards keep their color.

Wrought Iron Fence

Open iron for front yards that must stay at least half open, for lots facing the Indian Creek fairways and for pool enclosures.

Chain Link Fence

Chain link in galvanized or black for business sites, plus home replacements and interior lot lines, the two places Carrollton allows it on a house lot.

Commercial Fencing

Perimeter fencing for Carrollton commercial and industrial properties, held to the 8 ft cap the city sets outside residential districts.

Gates

Every wood gate gets a welded steel frame. Iron and chain link gates meet Carrollton’s 3 ft minimum width.

Pergolas

Cedar pergolas stained before installation, with an optional polycarbonate cover. A 3D rendering shows you the design before we build.

Concrete

Stamped and exposed aggregate patios, walkways and driveways to finish the yard inside your new fence line.

Carrollton Spells Out How a Wood Fence Is Built

Carrollton sits on Blackland Prairie clay, which expands after heavy rain and pulls back in a dry summer. The city’s fence chapter sets construction rules to match. On a wood fence taller than 4 ft, posts must be galvanized steel or 4×4 cedar in concrete footings at least 8 inches across. Under 7 ft, posts go every 8 ft at 24 inches deep. At 7 ft and up, spacing drops to 6 ft and footings go 36 inches deep.

Every wood fence we build stands on steel posts in concrete, and every wood gate hangs on a welded steel frame. The code also keeps pickets at least 2 inches off the ground, or on a kick board or concrete strip, so the wood stays out of wet clay. Our lifetime workmanship warranty covers that fence and gate work for as long as the property is yours.

Neighborhoods We Serve in Carrollton

Carrollton’s housing runs from blocks near the 1940s square to a community finished in 2017. Here is where we build, listed from south to north.

Downtown Carrollton 75006

Homes around the historic square, built from the 1940s through the 1990s. Many of these older blocks have no HOA, so the city code is the main rule book.

Country Place 75006

A 1970s community of single-family homes, townhomes and duplexes. Its HOA runs lakes, a golf course and a clubhouse, so check its fence guidelines before the layout is final.

Josey Ranch 75006

Single-family homes built from 1986 to 1992, near Josey Ranch Lake and its park. Some sections carry an HOA and some do not.

Nob Hill 75006

About 467 single-story and two-story homes built in 1983 and 1984. Cedar on steel posts suits the rear and side lines of these lots.

Woodlake 75007

Ranch-style homes in a community that dates to 1972, close to Woodlake Pond and Furneaux Lane Park.

Indian Creek 75007 and 75010

An HOA of seven neighborhoods and about 1,350 homes, mostly from the 1980s and 1990s, bordered by the Indian Creek and Coyote Ridge golf courses. Iron keeps the fairway view open on lots that face a course.

Mustang Park 75010

Built between 2012 and 2017, the newest single-family community on this list. The HOA’s architectural control committee reviews fences, patio covers and pools before work begins.

Fence Rules and Recommendations for Carrollton

Cedar Out Back, Open Iron Up Front

On most Carrollton lots, cedar on steel posts covers the rear and side lines up to 8 ft. The front yard needs a fence that is at least half open, so iron at 36 inches is the usual pick there. Chain link fits business sites, but on a house lot the city limits it to replacements and interior lines. Carrollton also bans slats threaded through chain link anywhere in the city, so screening calls for wood instead.

Carrollton Fence Height and Material Rules

In single-family and duplex districts, rear and side fences can reach 8 ft. Front yard fences top out at 36 inches, can be no more than 50 percent opaque and must stay out of the visibility triangle, where nothing may stand more than 36 inches above the curb. On a key lot, an open iron or tubular steel fence up to 8 ft can sit as close as 5 ft to the property line beside the house. Residential materials are wood, vinyl, wrought iron, brick or stone, with chain link only for replacements and interior lot lines. Wire fabric, corrugated or sheet metal, plywood, fiberglass, metal panels and electrified fences are banned, apart from a low-voltage pet wire on the inside. Pool barriers must be at least 48 inches tall and cannot be chain link. HOAs may add their own rules. Source: Carrollton Code of Ordinances, Chapter 154 Fences.

We hired Lowery Fence Company to replace the back fence and one side between our house and one of our neighbors, and they exceeded our expectations. From start to finish, they were professional, communicative, and delivered exactly what we wanted — if not better!

Unfortunately, we share our fence line with two neighbors, and the other neighbor chose to go with a different contractor they knew. Seeing the difference between the two companies firsthand, I can confidently say that Lowery Fence is the company you want to go with. Their attention to detail, craftsmanship, and overall customer service truly stood out. I only wish we had used them for the entire fence!

Highly recommend them if you’re looking for quality work and a company that genuinely takes care of its clients.

Everyone on their crew were so kind and really helped us out by using their knowledge to better assess our needs. We had to wait an extra day because of some rain but as soon as it was clear they were out working and didn’t waste any time!

They did an amazing job on my fence. Clean lines, sturdy build, and they finished quicker than I expected. Couldn’t be happier with how it came out!

Commercial Chain Link for Carrollton Business Sites

Carrollton’s code sorts chain link by zoning district. It is allowed in commercial, industrial and freeway districts, left out of retail and office districts, and limited to replacements and interior lines on house lots. The first step on a commercial job is confirming which district the property sits in.

Fences outside residential districts top out at 8 ft, and chain link fabric has to meet the city’s 11 gauge minimum. Slats woven into the mesh are not allowed, so a site that needs screening is better served by a wood section where the district allows wood. For lots that need controlled entry, we add a powered slide gate opened by keypad, remote or access control system.
