Town Lots and Working Land Around Muenster
Muenster is a town of 1,536 people on US 82 in western Cooke County, founded by German Catholic settlers in 1889. Fence work here splits two ways. Inside city limits, new homes are going up on North Ash lots of 7,500 to 23,750 sq ft. Outside town, the job is perimeter wire and cross fence on cattle land. Our crews come from the Sherman office, about 55 to 60 minutes east on US 82.
A town lot in Muenster has its own rules: 36 in and half open in front of the house, 8 ft behind it, and a 15 ft setback where the fence runs along a street. We lay out the line to fit them before any post goes in. The estimate comes in writing with the layout, materials and start date, and you get a project manager’s number to call.

Wood Fencing
Stained cedar privacy fence up to 8 ft behind the house, on concrete-set steel posts. Built for the new backyards on Cirrus Circle and the older lots off Main Street.
Wrought Iron Fence
Iron pickets leave most of the view open, so an iron fence meets Muenster’s 50 percent opacity rule in front of the house at 36 in.
Barbed Wire
Barbed wire perimeter fence for cattle land around Muenster, and for in-town residential lots used for agriculture, the one case the city allows it.

Welded steel pipe along road frontage, around pens and at entrances on acreage outside city limits, along FM 373, FM 1198 and out toward Marysville.

Pasture gates sized for stock trailers and hay equipment, set where the field entrance meets the county road.
Chain Link Fence
Galvanized or black-coated chain link for dog runs, side yards and town lots that back onto open pasture.
Gate Automation
Keypad and remote gate operators, swing or slide, for long driveways on acreage homesites outside town.
Custom Patio Covers
Covers over the back patio of a new North Ash home, built to match the house, with lighting built in if you want it.
Built for Shale, Sandy Loam and Red Clay
Ground around Muenster changes from one property to the next. The North Ash lots are listed with rocky shale and sandy loam, and Cooke County soils run from sand to loam and from red to black. Every steel post goes into concrete, which keeps the line straight in any of them. Each wood gate is hung on a welded steel frame to keep it from sagging. Fence and gate work is backed by our lifetime workmanship warranty while you own the place.
West of Gainesville the land climbs toward 1,000 ft and opens into rolling prairie with post oak along the draws. A long pasture run has to follow that grade. We walk the line with you before the layout is set, so the corners, gates and road frontage are where you want them.

Fence Rules and Recommendations for Muenster
Cedar Out Back, Iron Up Front, Wire on Pasture
On a Muenster town lot, we usually recommend stained cedar on steel posts behind the house, where the code allows up to 8 ft. In front of the house the fence has to stay half open, so iron or aluminum is the clean choice. On acreage outside city limits, barbed wire, pipe and ranch gates do the work, and the posts still go in concrete.
Muenster Fence Height and Material Rules
Residential fences in Muenster can be wood, ornamental iron or aluminum, chain link, recycled composite or vinyl, and no other materials are allowed. Behind the front building line, fences can be up to 8 ft tall. In front of it, the limit is 36 in, and the fence can be no more than 50 percent opaque. A fence along a street sits 15 ft back from the property line on that side. Barbed wire is allowed only as perimeter fence on a residential lot used for agriculture. Deed restrictions in newer developments may add their own rules. Source: City of Muenster Code, Section 14.3.16.
Muenster Fence Questions
Straight talk on street setbacks, barbed wire in town and the drive from Sherman. For anything else, call us.
Barbed Wire Is Allowed on Agricultural Lots in Town
Muenster’s zoning code holds residential fences to a short list of materials, with one exception. If a residential lot is used for agriculture, its perimeter fence can be barbed wire. That fits a county where cattle have long been the main farm business: in the 1978 farm census, livestock brought in about 82 percent of Cooke County farm sales.
Outside city limits, the pasture runs on toward Lindsay, Myra and Saint Jo. There we build barbed wire perimeter and cross fence, steel pipe along the road and ranch gates sized for trailers and equipment. For a wire fence inside town, we go over the lot’s agricultural use with you before we plan the line.
