Fence Replacement for Richardson’s 1970s Neighborhoods
The median Richardson home was built in 1973 and sits on a lot of about 8,712 sq ft. On lots that age, many fences are past their best years. Replacement is the main fence work in this city. Our crews drive in from the Plano office, about 15 to 20 minutes away.
Richardson lets you build a rear fence up to 8 ft tall, so a replacement can go taller than the fence it takes the place of. We tear out the old run, haul it off and build on the line you sign off on. The estimate comes in writing with a set timeline, and one project manager takes your calls.

Fence and Outdoor Living Services in Richardson
Wood Fencing
Cedar privacy fences up to the full 8 ft Richardson allows along rear and side lines, set on steel posts in concrete.
Wrought Iron Fence
Open iron for pools, creek lots and greenbelt yards. Pool fences are at least 4 ft tall with self-closing, self-latching gates.
Gates
Steel-framed wood gates that hold their shape, hung to open into the yard because Richardson bars gates from swinging out over an alley easement.
Chain Link Fence
Chain link in a galvanized or black finish for dog runs, side yards and utility areas behind the house.
Fence Staining
Stain for new cedar and for older fences that still stand straight, so the boards keep their color longer.
Custom Patio Covers
Covers sized to the back of a ranch or two-story brick home, with built-in lighting available.
Pergolas
A 3D rendering shows the pergola on your patio before the crew builds it in stained cedar. A polycarbonate cover is optional.
Decks
Decks in wood or composite, with stairs and rails, planned to fit a backyard on a lot of about a fifth of an acre.
Concrete
Stamped or exposed aggregate patios and walks, including the path from the back door to a rear gate.
Built to Stay Plumb on Richardson Clay
Richardson code says a fence may lean no more than 20 percent out of plumb, and code enforcement looks for leaning fences and missing slats. Under the city is Blackland Prairie clay, which swells after rain and shrinks in dry spells. That movement works wood posts loose over time. Steel posts set in concrete hold the line upright through both.
Every wood gate we hang rides on a frame of welded steel, so the latch keeps lining up and the gate does not drag. When part of a fence is damaged, the city expects the repair in comparable materials. A cedar fence on standard steel posts is easy to match board for board later.

Neighborhoods We Serve in Richardson
Richardson runs from 1950s ranch streets near US 75 to 1990s and 2000s homes by Breckinridge Park. We cover all of it from Plano.
Canyon Creek 75080
Ranch and mid-century homes from the mid-1960s and 1970s around Canyon Creek Country Club. The HOA is voluntary, so the city rules set the limits here.
Richardson Heights 75080
Postwar ranch homes, most from the 1950s, many on pier and beam foundations. Cedar privacy along the back and sides is the usual fit.
The Reservation 75080
Early 1960s homes in northwest Richardson on streets like Mohawk and Cheyenne, with Mimosa Park in the middle. It has a neighborhood association, not a mandatory HOA.
Cottonwood Creek 75080
About 300 homes from the 1970s and 80s along Cottonwood Creek. Lots that back to the creek suit iron or a cedar and iron mix.
Highland Terrace 75081
One of the city’s largest neighborhoods, with 1950s and 60s ranch homes between US 75 and Bowser Road.
Duck Creek 75081
1970s and 80s ranch homes, most on quarter-acre lots, with the Duck Creek greenbelt running through the middle. Iron suits the yards that face it.
Crowley Park 75082
Early 1980s ranch homes and two-story brick houses around the 60-acre Crowley Park.
Sherrill Park 75082
1980s homes around the Sherrill Park Golf Course. Fairways of Sherrill Park has a mandatory HOA, so its standards apply on top of the city’s.
Estates of Breckinridge Creek, Wyndsor Estates and Mackenzie Meadows 75082
Homes from the mid-1990s to the early 2000s near Breckinridge Park. All three have mandatory HOAs, so we design to their standards.

Fence Rules and Recommendations for Richardson
Cedar for Privacy, Iron for Pools and Greenbelts
For most Richardson lots we recommend board-on-board cedar over steel posts on the back and side property lines, up to 8 ft tall. When a yard faces a creek, a greenbelt or a pool, iron leaves the view open and can meet the pool fence rules. If your street has a mandatory HOA, we confirm its standards before you choose a style.
Richardson Fence Height and Material Rules
Richardson allows fences up to 8 ft from the rear lot line to the front wall of the house. Past the front wall, fences are limited to 3 ft, must be decorative and may not create a traffic hazard. Allowed materials are wood, vinyl, masonry, wrought iron and chain link. Height is measured from the natural grade on the inside of the yard. Property lines must be located before a fence goes up, no fence may sit on public property and gates may not swing out into an alley easement. A pool fence must be at least 4 ft tall with no opening over 4 in, and every gate needs a self-closing, self-latching device in the upper quarter. A fence may not lean more than 20 percent out of plumb, and damaged sections must be repaired with comparable materials. HOAs can enforce standards above these. Richardson Fence Questions
Plain answers on height, HOAs, property lines and code issues in Richardson. Have a question we did not cover? Call us.
Richardson Allows 8 ft Fences Behind the House
Richardson’s zoning rules allow a fence up to 8 ft tall from the rear lot line to the front wall of the house. That covers the back yard and both side yards. On a lot that backs onto an alley or a busy road, the extra height adds real privacy.
Forward of the front wall, the limit drops to 3 ft and the fence has to be decorative. We plan where the tall run stops at the corners of the house so the two heights meet cleanly. In a mandatory HOA like Mackenzie Meadows or Estates of Breckinridge Creek, we design to the HOA standards as well.
