Not a kit from a big box store. A typical build includes:
- A custom stone fire pit, most often a 3-foot fire area wrapped in a 1-foot stone surround
- A high-heat fire brick lining inside the pit. Fire brick is refractory brick, made to take extreme heat without breaking down, so the structure stays solid year after year
- A crushed limestone gravel seating area, usually about 16 feet across, set on a prepped and compacted base
- A stone border around the seating area that locks the gravel in and keeps the edges clean
- A flagstone or smooth mortared cap on top, wide enough to set a drink on

Fire Pit Seating Areas That Get Used
The seating area around it is what makes it work.
The pit is half the project. A fire pit sitting in the middle of the grass collects mud, kills the lawn around it, and gets used twice a year. A finished seating area gets used all season.
Crushed limestone gravel
Our standard seating area is a crushed limestone gravel circle about 16 feet across. That fits six to eight chairs with room to walk behind them. Limestone gravel drains fast after rain, never needs mowing, and keeps a clean firebreak around the flames. It is the best low-maintenance option for the money.
Pavers and concrete
Want a harder finish? We also build fire pit patios in pavers or stamped and standard concrete, and we can tie the new seating area into an existing patio or walkway so it all reads as one space.
Borders, grading, and drainage
Every gravel seating area gets a stone border to contain the rock and hold the line between lawn and seating area. If your yard slopes, we handle the leveling and drainage as part of the build, so water moves away from the area instead of pooling in it.
Wood-Burning or Gas?
Most of our customers choose a wood-burning stone fire pit.
Real flame, real crackle, no gas line to run. The fire brick lining is what lets a wood-burning pit take real heat season after season.

A standalone fire pit costs less than a fire pit with a full gravel seating area and stone border, and pavers or concrete run more than gravel.
