Fence Rules and Recommendations for Durant
Cedar in Town, Pipe and Wire on Acreage
On R-1 lots, a cedar board-on-board fence set on steel posts gives privacy along the rear and sides, up to 8 ft at the back. On a rental, galvanized or black chain link takes the most wear for the least upkeep, and it can be paired with cedar across the back. On A-1 tracts, welded pipe along the road and woven wire on the pasture lines cover the distance. Where a front yard must stay at 4 ft, open iron keeps the house in view.

Durant’s zoning code allows fences, walls and hedges up to 8 ft in the required rear yard, 6 ft in the required side yards and 4 ft in the required front yard. On a corner lot, no fence, wall or hedge can sit inside the triangle formed by the two property lines and a line joining points 25 ft from the corner.
